Classrooms have a pedagogy that is reminiscent of the pre-internet era of teaching-learning through group lectures where one teacher speaks to a class of 60 students. There is no attention paid to the learning needs or styles of individual students and thus the quality of learning outcomes at leading public universities is a 67% failure rate.

Our vision for the classroom of tomorrow is to create a “Learner Centered Model” with high quality learning outcomes where nearly all students achieve learning objectives for the course. Through Connected Learning pedagogy, students choose between Self Learning, Peer Learning and Teacher assisted learning to suit their personal learning styles.

Our vision for the future of classroom education is based on data of learning styles of Indian students from our execution over the last 24 months along with Facebook School of Innovation and Freshworks School of SaaS at Sastra and GiTAM University.

Philosophy

“The aim of education / adhyayana (अध्ययन) is to be a tool for preparation for a life-long journey to awaken the primary faculties of human consciousness and become self-aware individuals.”

This journey of life-long education is depicted in our emblem of a child learning under the tree of awakening. The motto Anu Gacchata Pravaham (अनुगच्छत प्रवाहं) is a benevolent blessing for our pupils: “May you follow the universal flow of life”.

Regulatory Layer

Pupilfirst is a founding member of the National Educational Alliance for Technology, a Public Private Partnership Scheme for promoting educational technology companies by Ministry of Education, Government of India.

Pedagogy Layer

We create our own Pupilfirst learning management system (LMS) for running an asynchronous online school, where learning is achieved through focused tasks, directed feedback, an iterative workflow, and community interaction.

Curriculum Layer

Along with industry partners like Facebook and Freshworks, we create competency based curriculums that delivers in-demand industry skills to students in emerging technologies.

Institutional Layer

The final magic ingredient is a methodological process that has been developed through two years of research that lets faculty guide students to achieve high quality learning outcomes consistently.

    With a double masters from US and a decade of work experience at IIT Chennai’s Social Incubator, Suma has deep operational expertise across students, academia and industry.

    Hari is a full-stack software engineer with 11 years of experience and leads Pupilfirst, one of the largest open-source projects using ReasonML.

    Co-founder & Director

    Gautham is part of the founding team at Startup Village and is in hard pursuit of the grand vision of changing the higher education landscape in India. With a passion for technology, teaching and travel, his key areas of interest in the startup scene include product-market fit, story-telling, change management, culture of companies, big ticket sales, talent management and strategy.

    Dr. Reena Singh works as Industry Academia Liaison Manager at Pupilfirst. Before this, she was an Assistant Professor at MIT, Manipal for 2.5 years. She holds a PhD in Computer Science from IIT Mandi.
